Takip-silim (Twilight)

It was around 5:37 pm and my brother and I decided to do a very spontaneous photo session before it was dark. By the way in the Philippines, 6 pm is as equivalent as the start of the night because it usually is coindentally getting dark.
This is the first time that I am using VSCO fully to edit my photos. I used different presets in my three photos. And yes, I am using my phone while doing this blog.

What do you think?

Nonchalant

You’ve probably seen me wearing everything colorful and eye-catching but I guess that wasn’t me, I mean not entirely. I’m a type of guy who loves to stay in plain colors or even just dress myself in black. Some people might probably think that I’m too plain or I do have a boring personality, but I guess, my type of clothing doesn’t necessarily reflect who I am. I just think that staying with neutral colors (in most occasions) and choosing clothes that are relaxed to the eyes just give everyone an impression that you might have not really prepared but you could still look good. At least that’s what they think it is and that’s a positive thing!

Recently, I got sick of thinking what to wear so I just decided to go back to my old self and choose whatever it was that would feel comfortable and lazy-looking and I’d like to believe it actually worked.

The day before this, I found this really nice striped shirt from H&M and I thought it was really simple and nice.

Since I’m into chill pants right now, I tried to match my shirt with a pair of it, which I got from Bo’s Athletics. And my boat shoes of course, from Regatta.

laid black clothesIt was kind of hot that day so I decided to add a little accessory, which was a pair of sunnies from SM Accessories.

And check out my other shots.

My final word on this:

I guess it’s good to play with colors but sometimes, you just gotta go back to the basics to appreciate simplicity at its finest.

Oh, and don’t forget, Life is Good! (I don’t just use that on vlogs, but on blogs too!)

See you on my next blog or maybe blog!

Embracing the North

The Philippines is indeed gifted with breathtaking locations and picturesque scenery. Aside from the beaches, the country is also home to beautiful land formations which are definitely eye-catching.

This May, I was able to visit two of the best places in the northern part of our country which are both in Ilocos Norte. One of them is Pagudpud Beach, located in Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte and another is the Bangui Wind Farm in Bangui, Ilocos Norte.

I was lucky enough because I had a free accommodation in the province of Cagayan, courtesy of my friend, Jerome’s aunt. Our trip going to Cagayan is by far the longest bus ride I’ve ever had – 13 hours from Cubao, Quezon City to Sanchez Mira, Cagayan! But I guess the long ride was worth it simply because I had an experience of a lifetime.

Short to say, we did not go to Pagudpud and Bangui Windmills straight from Manila but we actually came from Cagayan. It was a two-hour drive from there to the beach. I was so excited along the way because it was my first swimming experience for the summer!

The beach was a perfect beauty just by itself. I’ve never seen seawater as clear and blue as that one. It was so calm that the waves hitting the shore were the loudest sound in there. We didn’t waste anytime and we immediately jumped into the water. Oh, I can’t forget how happy I was at the moment I lied down in the sands and forgot every stressful feeling I had.

But as the sun was setting down, we had to leave the place as we had to go to another place, the Bangui Wind Farm. The latter is just a 30 minutes from the beach (so I wasn’t afraid of losing the sunlight!) so we made it there in no time. The place is just composed of windmills, which is an energy source in there. Although it doesn’t really sound like a tourist attraction, the placement of the windmills near the sea is just beautiful. It is a good background for a shoot!

My overall trip in the north was definitely unforgettable. Aside from a good company, I had the opportunity to enjoy life without problems – something I have been looking for since the beginning of this year. Going back to the city, I must say that I felt rejuvenated and was ready to face the stressful city life once again!

Below are some of the pictures we took during our vacation. Too bad Jerome’s DSLR was not working but he still tried his best to capture great photos using his ipad.

Details

Noticing the small details of things makes me appreciate life even more – one realization I had a couple of days ago. The expression of the eyes, the genuineness of a smile, the movements of hair strands that touch one’s face – these things are sometimes the ones that we sometimes neglect as there are moments when we tend to look at life so quickly.

I then took this concept as an inspiration in one of my recent walks in a huge park in Quezon City.

Just to give you a brief background of the place; the Quezon Memorial Circle is both a national park and shrine and was built supposedly to be the location of the national capitol for the House of Congress. However, the plan didn’t come to reality due to certain circumstances. By the way, it was built to honor our late President, Manuel L. Quezon.

The monument below stands 66 meters or 217 feet tall (It looks amazing in person!).

The Quezon Memorial Circle Monument

For the first time, I decided to have this photo session right before sunset to achieve better effects. People often term this as the “Golden Hour”. I would have to agree with this since at this time, the sunlight is not too bright, which just gives your skin its perfect color.

For the photos, I gave some of them a monochromatic effect to give a dramatic look. I must say that while I was editing, I realized that the black and white effect just gave so much story on each picture and it felt amazing. I guess, it’s really easier to appreciate the details in that kind of color scheme.

And here are the final photos:

MonochromeNow there are times, when we feel like stolen moments give better photo effects. We see the imperfections of our features but we still love them because those imperfections make us who we are and the same time, we capture the true scene and we create a good story behind it. Well, here are some of them:

The smallest details definitely give life to a photograph – That was what I learned here. Every expression has a meaning and every gesture suggests something. The bottomline? Little things create the biggest impacts.

Laid Back

I recently had the opportunity to visit Intramuros (Walled City) in Manila after almost two years. Just to give you a short background of the place, Intramuros is a Latin term which means “within the walls”. It was built during the Spanish colonization in the Philippines. It became the seat of the Spanish government at that time. Although it has been destroyed by World War II, it still stands in its place up to now because restorations were made after the destruction.

At the present, Intramuros is surrounded by schools and other buildings although when you’re inside, you would only step on stones. This came to my mind as a good place to take photos since I was thinking of a “laid back” shoot.

Here are some of my photos:

Well I tried to use different shades on my photos depending on what I felt fit them. I do believe that experimenting in colors is really important so that you’ll be able to see the best shade your photo can have.

At the end of the day, I just felt good after seeing the shots because I thought that I really took the idea of being relaxed and mellow. I put my hair down and wore something cool and comfortable.

My Simple Ways to Happiness

Happiness, for me, goes beyond laughter and smiles. I define it as an experience rather than the mere presence of physical expressions.

I can say that I am a blissful type of person. I don’t usually dwell on pains; moreover, I don’t worry too much on things. I am carefree, but not careless.

In this blog, I would like to share with you how I am able to achieve happiness in very simple ways and I how I keep my vivace in a good level.

1. Do something that you love.

Something that really makes me happy is anything that relates to photography. The latter is definitely one of my passions in life. I like being both in front or behind the camera. I guess, I just appreciate every little form of beauty that I see in each photo. I’m not expert in photography but it’s just enjoyable and I believe that enjoyment matters a lot in here.

2. Eat. Don’t starve yourself.

One thing that I can’t live without is food – I mean this goes true to everyone. However, circumstances when people put their attention too much in looking thin and lean to the point of forgetting what food is. I have to say that yes, a good diet is important, but that doesn’t mean that you don’t have to take anything at all. Being slim sounds nice, but being healthy sounds nicer. And I guess, It’s okay to cheat on what you eat once in a while!

3. Spend some for yourself.

Well sometimes, people are too focused on bills, bills and bills that they forget what they are working for. Remember, we don’t work just to pay the bills; we also work to reward ourselves for all our days of sacrifices.

4. Don’t be afraid to look crazy.

We all have moments when we feel like getting out of our minds and do unconventional things. For me, going crazy once in a while is what makes us all humans. I must say that life should also take its pauses, and that’s one of them! Be crazy and you’ll see how everything goes lighter.

5. Sit in front of a fountain. Watch it. Enjoy the colors.

A fountain is such a small thing compared to the night clubs that people drive themselves into. But one thing about it is that it brings tranquility wherever you place it. Whenever I see fountains along busy streets, I can’t stop looking at them with utmost pleasure because of how beautiful they come to be when they only are water and colors. Perhaps, it’s life’s little magics: aesthetics in the middle of simplicity

Life is simple. Happiness is a choice. Choose to live life in simple, but happy ways. I just did! When will you?

Monochromatic Madness

For a few years now, I’ve been very much interested in photography: in front and behind the lens. A hobby like such is certainly worth anyone’s time as it allows him to witness what’s not usually noticed by many people – that is natural beauty.

A few days ago, I tried to experiment on black and white shots and I felt like these shots also work well if one wants to be more creative.

Prior to the start of my “little experiment”, I had some notes in mind that I thought would work well with black and white shots:

1. I chose a background that was plain in color because it was the least thing that I would want to be noticed in the photo. Since I was planning to go monochrome, I felt that the subject of the photo should be given emphasis.

2. I chose to wear a plain, black, v-neck tee. I guess, designed and color would not really matter since only black and white colors would arise in the end.

3. I made my hair look a little slick to make the photo simpler in appearance. I guess brushing up one’s appearance would enhance the impact of a one-colored photo.

4. Lastly, I considered a site which had ample light to capture the best of my features. Shadows on a person’s face in a photo is definitely a big “no-no” because they distort what subjects or even the entire photo conveys.

Well after minutes of photo shooting, I came up with two photos which I thought shone out. Expression-wise, I felt I worked it.
